Tonight I asked my twitter followers what I should talk about on the blog, Writing, Gaming or Parenting. The crickets were very loud. SO I am going to talk a bit about all three! Give you, the reader, an idea of where I am coming from and my experience on each subject.
Parenting:
I am a mother of 7 boys. 6 of them live with me while my oldest son lives with my Ex Husband. The ages range from 17 down to almost 3 so my range of experience with boys is well rounded. (Don't ask me anything about girls, I have no idea, I was a tom boy growing up.)
I have also trained as a birth doula. A woman who assists another during labor and birth, minimizing interventions and advocating for the wishes of the parents.
I am always willing to share my experiences with new parents and learn from more experienced parents.
Gaming:
I have been a role player since I could get outside and pretend I was Cheatarah or Rogue. Playing generations of My Little Pony at a slumber party with my BFF. I started getting into "serious" gaming in high school when I met a group that played Vampire: The Masquerade and Werewolf: The Apocalypse. From there I went straight into the LARPing spending weekends as Iniriba GreyMyst; a Half-wolf mage who was orphaned and sold to slavers. The name continued to follow me through my gamer evolution when I began playing EverQuest in the early part of 2000. (We bought the game for Christmas of 1999 but didn't get to play until after the new year.)
I continued playing a variety of MMORPG's, eventually getting into Alpha and Beta testing different games. My current favorite is EverQuest Next Landmark. (Though I have not been able to play due to crappy internet and life stuff, I still follow what is happening through various social media.)
Writing:
I have always dreamed of being a professional author. Being able to write and weave stories for people and make a living doing it. I have recently had the drive and opportunity to make that dream a reality. Though I still don't get the chance to spend the kind of time and money on a writing career that I would like, I am learning new things every day. How to plan my time so that I can get words written, or how to let it go if I don't get as much done as other writers. Taking into account that I am a mom and have certain responsibilities that override my desire to daydream about another world. That I am not in a position financially to take the classes or go to the seminars that I would like to. I need to allow myself to take my career a day at a time and let it grow at it's own pace.
Books/Reading:
I love to read. My dream house has a large library that I have filled with the entire SciFi/Fantasy section of Barns and Noble. Love books? Lets talk! I have a few writers that I drop everything for but I am always open to new blood in the genres I prefer.
Now that you have an idea of what I can bring to the table, I hope to engage my readers with things that are interesting and informative. Allowing you to learn something or walk away feeling that you gained something from having read my posts.
Howl at the moon and make some magic,
Iniriba
